What was he searching for: INITIATION MATERIALS OR INFORMATION ON The eel river rangers? or Maybe the hidden spots Where the Harrahs (REMCO) dumped all that chromium. There are lots of SECRETS the Willits Masonic Temple has held!
An alert neighbor hearing the sound of shattering glass allowed the quick resolution of Monday’s early morning break in at the Masonic building.
The neighbor called police and Willits officers responded quickly to the Main Street building. The front glass door and windows were broken and officers assumed the prowler was still inside the building.
Mendocino County sheriff’s Sgt. Michael Davis and K-9 Officer Dutch arrived to help officers Eric Heiken and Claudia Lefort with the building search. While the officers prepared to search the building, they shouted to the intruder(s) about the presence of a police dog and offered them an opportunity to surrender before releasing the search dog.
Micheal Jay Overholt, 25, of Willits, stepped out of a closet and surrendered without further incident. According to police, Overholt had several items from within the building and a pair of illegal double-edged fixed blade knives about 6-1/2 inches long in his possession when taken into custody.
Overholt was arrested on suspicion of possession of a dangerous weapon, vandalism, possession of stolen property and burglary in the second degree.
